Health Discovery Corporation holds the patents to SVM and RFE

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

While doing some literature search and reading, I discovered that SVM and RFE are actually patented technologies. I am not sure what are the implications of this to researchers but I don’t like the sound of it. Maybe it is time to look into other new machine learning technologies and hold off using SVM for the next 20 years.

Update

Have not been posting for quite some time. I am just too busy at work and at home to post anything (ya, I know, it is poor excuse). Anyway, I have just completed a programming project (see my next post) and now should have time to go back to look at visualization of datasets again :)

What is this blog about?

Monday, February 11th, 2008

The main aim of this blog is to serve as a repository of articles on data mining and its application in pharmacy. I will present interesting findings (published and non-published) from my own research in data mining and application of it in pharmaceutical areas. I will also post articles about the progress of data mining algorithms, comparison among the different algorithms, comparison of the various available softwares, tutorials on the usage of data mining algorithms, etc. In short, anything that I find interesting on data mining.

Other than data mining, I will also post about programming, mainly C++. I will post some code snippets that I have found to be very useful in my various programs.
